That is how this whole thing started. A group of us at Jason’s Deli were lamenting about the fact that, in the process of running our middle school- and high school-aged kids around to their ridiculous amounts of academic- and sports-related activities, there was nothing but fried, fast food choices. We realized weall had the same dilemma; divide and conquer, bring this kid to this Select (insert sport here) game, that kid to Band practice, pick up this other child to bring to this (insert sport here) practice with our 3rd child. Oh, and we can either eat dinner at 4:30 before it all or 9:00 after it all.
We recently spent a whole weekend eating 3 meals a day in fast food establishments. While they are fine and some folks really like them, we don’t. My kids were not happy about it, my wife was not happy about it, nor was I, but we soldiered on, ordered the “egg white” option and tried it. In the end, our stomachs were full but our bodies felt as unfulfilled as our collective conscious did. While I will vent in a future blog about the crazy reasons why we even do this, the fact still remains that we all have to eat.
Once our group here realized, “We are just like our customers; they are us,” we began to work on a new version of our big restaurants – one that focused on the needs of the busy family, offered the quality and value you have come to expect from us, but repurposed to focus on proximity, speed and convenience. Along the way, we identified other needs like family vacations, holiday shopping and just regular “up and out early to the tournament” weekends when Mom and Dad need some coffee and everyone needs some breakfast. We wanted to give those families, just like us, the opportunity to feel good about their choices without having to choose fried or over-processed foods, and package it in a way that was functional and transportable. What does your car look like after a trip to the Big M or any of the other cookie-cutter, food manufacturing outlets you visit? Wrappers everywhere, drink cups in every holder and that smell. THAT SMELL. It never goes away!
So, after two years of planning and tweaking and losing sleep, here we are!
Is it perfect? We wish, but that rarely happens out of the gate, right? Does this version have everything our big delis offer? No. It has been focused down to offer the items that will create a fast and fulfilling experience for you and your family on the Go. Come try a better way to eat on the go, tell us what you like and what you don’t like. Also, keep checking back here every month for our insights and frustrations about food and the food industry, parenting challenges, your feedback and questions.
